There are a number of exotic hardwoods besides Ipe on the market. Many of these share the same qualities of strength and durability with varying shades and colors. Below are two examples
Tiger Wood is well known throughout South America and Europe as one as one of the most durable and beautiful species available. Nearly blemish free, Tiger Wood is tan to red with dark striping and will fade to a silver grey if left untreated. It is strong enough to use 1" boards in place of 5/4" or 2" boards.
Cambara / Mahogany is a beautiful consistent brown color. It is easy to cut, plane, or route, and can be nailed down, unlike most high density hardwoods.
