What is IronWoods Ipe Decking?
IronWoods© is a premium consumer decking product made from Ipe (pronounced "ee-pay"), an incredibly durable wood species native to South America. Its natural weather resistance makes it an ideal and beautiful alternative to treated wood.
Naturally Indestructible
- Twice as hard as Oak, the extreme rigidity of Ironwood means you can replace 2x6 cedar or redwood with 1x6 Ironwood. It is many times stronger than plastics or composites, as well.
- Because of its remarkable weather resistance, Ironwood has held the U.S. Forest Lab’s highest durability rating for over 25 years. It won’t twist, bow, crack, or cup. When left unsealed, it weathers to a beautiful silver color.
- Ironwood holds the NFPA class A rating for fire resistance – the same as concrete!
- Completely impervious to insect damage, Ironwood underwent a 15-year underground test by the U.S. Naval Labs. It showed zero termite damage at the end of the study.
Top quality
100% pure Ipe, Tabebuia spp. Lapacho. Other similar looking, but lower performing and often less expensive species, are identified and rejected. Plus, Iron Woods® is a premium clear all-heart grade. Second-quality boards are rejected at the mill.
Iron Woods® comes in standard sizes and features superior tallies of the preferred deck board lengths for installation ease. Sizes include 2x2 up to 4x12, some up to 20ft long.
