The Process

Using a carefully controlled machine-driven process, CMF completely encapsulates all six sides of your siding and exterior trim pieces in Cabot Factory Finish.

The machine finishing process
  1. Controlled temperature and humidity levels stabilize any moisture in the wood
  2. Siding is fed into the machine applicator and flooded with Cabot Factory Finish
  3. Pressure rollers spread the coating evenly
  4. High-speed brushes drive Factory Finish into all six sides of the wood for maximum protection; back-priming reduces shrinking and swelling and improves siding durability
  5. Proper spread rates and uniform color coverage provide a beautiful Factory Finish with the highest outdoor performance standards.

Cost Comparison

The following cost comparisons are based on a 2,500 sq. ft. home with a standard window and trim package:

  • 360 boards of 8-1/4" x 12' cedar textured fibered cement siding
  • Approx. 2,000 linear feet (lf) of various exterior trims
  • Total linear footage of exterior package 6,320 linear feet of siding and trim
Cost of CMF Process vs. Field application of coating by a subcontract painter
Description Unit Cost Total
Field application of 2 coats with no warranty $1.75 per sq. ft. $4,375.00
CMF process for 1 coat with a 5 year warranty $0.24 per LF $1,516.80
Difference to be applied to field top coat   $2,858.20

Once a field coat of Cabot "Finish" is applied over the CMF applied Cabot Factory Finish the end result is MORE coating applied to MORE surface area for LESS money with a 15-year warranty on the paint job!
