Position Summary
The EWP Design Assistant provides support to the design team by preparing layouts, performing take-offs, and assisting with the preparation of engineered wood product (EWP) drawings and material lists. This role works closely with designers, sales, and production teams to ensure accurate designs that meet structural requirements and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Assist designers in preparing floor and roof layouts using specialized EWP design software.
Perform material take-offs and assist with pricing and quoting packages.
Review architectural and structural plans to ensure design accuracy.
Generate preliminary layouts and shop drawings under the supervision of the design team.
Prepare and maintain organized job files, drawings, and supporting documents.
Communicate with sales representatives, builders, and contractors to clarify design details when needed.
Assist in resolving design or field issues in collaboration with the design team.
Support production with accurate cut lists and layout instructions.
Ensure all designs comply with building codes, structural standards, and company guidelines.
Provide general administrative and technical support to the EWP design department.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or coursework in drafting, engineering, or construction technology preferred.
Basic knowledge of construction, structural components, and building materials.
Familiarity with CAD or EWP design software (e.g., MiTek, BC Framer, or similar) is a plus.
Strong math and analytical skills.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a seated position using a computer for extended periods.
Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. (job files, plans, etc.).
Work Environment
Office setting with occasional visits to production or job sites.
Fast-paced environment requires attention to detail and deadlines.
