The Heartbeat

Instant Gratification!

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

Have you ever looked at those people who just have it made! Someone who has made it in business and is doing very well or family which seems to have it all together or a Leader who seems to make every right move and is well respected.

I think we all have at some point looked at someone else’s life and were a little envious. Here is what we forget LIFE IS A JOURNEY! We all want to be Apostle Paul’s with out the journeys! If you have ever read about the life of Apostle Paul you would know that Paul was imprisoned, ship wrecked and beaten for his dedication to Jesus Christ.

I think about life at Yoder’s and I see what could be potentially great people taking shortcuts for instant reward rather than building their team. When you promote and serve your team you emerge as a leader. That is ironic that the person who serves the most usually will end up being the Leader or being promoted. The reason is simple and that is because the team player is able to see a bigger picture than just himself. You can’t help but notice, because our culture is all about NOW! Being a great team player does not happen over night. It happens over a period of time.

Which is better:

  • homemade potatoes or instant potatoes

  • fresh ground coffee or instant coffee

  • seasoned counselors or programmed counselors

  • debt free or lots of stuff

That is why we have every fast food restaurant you can think of because NOW is important in our culture, but is it the best?

The question to ask is “Am I sacrificing what is best for instant gratification.”

Dave Ramsey says it well when he says “Live like no one else so that later you can live like no one else”.

I know for myself I would like to be in great shape physically! The instant gratification of those donuts often get in the way.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father in heaven, I surrender every area of my life to You. I hunger for every single thing You have in store for me. I choose to trust You out in the deep waters knowing that You have good things in store for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. — Joel & Victoria Osteen
